      Operations Manager (SoCal Area) Interview

      May 10, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Postmates (Los Angeles, CA) in Mar 2018

      Interview

Horrific HR/communications process for such a small tech company, worse follow through than the largest F100 companies or investment banks. Interview process itself was fairly easy. Process began with a phone interview, very standard resume and background walkthrough, some "fit" questions. Next stage is a case study where you are tasked to break down about 6000 data entries in excel, come to conclusions about the market, and present 90-day solutions to deal with customer retention, fleet retention, growth, marketing, and new initiatives. Weirdly enough, they allow you to submit this report in multiple forms, even as a powerpoint. If you have a basic grasp of excel and report writing, this should be a breeze especially if you familiarized yourself with Postmates' strategy. I was then invited for 4 1:1 interviews, 2 in person, one on video call, and one one-way video call with HR. These are all members of their team in SoCal, with significant accomplishments. Many fit and situational/strategy components to questions, they also commented on some of my insights in the report I submitted. Very easy interviews, connected right away. HERE IS WHERE THE PROCESS BEGAN TO FALL APART: after the in-person 1:1 interviews, HR had sent the wrong Google hangouts conference links to both the team member and myself, wasted 10 or so minutes getting everything set up. Interview itself went by as a 7/10 experience (I personally dislike video conferences when gauging which companies actually care about who they are hiring). *HR had scheduled me the first person in this process, and gave me a two week deadline to hear back. I followed up promptly given that I had multiple offers coming in during that time period. HR moved the deadline back ANOTHER 2 WEEKS and blamed the team for not making a decision. Its not like this is an international company, and investment banking or a top-tier consulting firm. Such HR practices are insulting at best, and the communication (with HR, not the members I interviewed with) was abysmal. I accepted an offer elsewhere and didn't hear back a total of 5-6 weeks after the 1:1 interviews. Looks like I dodged a bullet anyhow.
