      User Experience Designer Interview

      Jul 20, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Santa Barbara, CA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at PayJunction (Santa Barbara, CA) in Apr 2017

      Interview

The interview process was long, unorganized, and riddled with red flags. After 2 months of really trying to like the company, I was majorly disappointed with how things turned out. I was extended an offer without even being given a tour of the office. The offer was below competitive for the role, they don't offer any sort of equity in the company, and the benefits were akin to working at Starbucks as opposed to a 'growing' tech company. After being extended an offer, I asked for a tour of the office, an introduction to the engineering team, and a meeting to talk about my opportunities for growth so I could make a properly informed decision. PayJunction responded that they would be able to arrange a tour and a meeting. One day later, instead of accommodating me with a tour and meeting, PayJunction was rescinding my offer so that they could pursue a better candidate. I know that PayJunction looks stellar on Glassdoor and they spend a lot of time and effort with video and marketing materials to make it appear to be a 'cool' place to work, which I am sure may be to those who just graduated from college and miss their frat house, but I would advise any applicants to be cognizant of culture fit and blatant red flags. I chose to ignore the signs and was dragged along in a two month emotional rollercoaster that I wish I would have avoided.

Thank you for your candid feedback about your interview experience. Because our engineering team is small, and our company overall runs lean, we put an inordinate amount of time and thought into each one of our hiring decisions. This can lead to longer wait times to move through the process, but we're ultimately focused on arranging the best fit for us and for our candidates. While it might be difficult at the time, our hope is that our decisions result in the best eventual outcome for all parties involved, whether you join our team or find a more compatible fit elsewhere.
