I applied through university. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Morgan Stanley (Calgary, AB) in Dec 2019
Interview
I got a non-empathetic, in a hurry (could not stop looking and touching his digital watch For the first half of the interview ) and safe to say I had an arrogant interviewer. I arrived 10 minutes before the scheduled time and waited at reception for 25 minutes (scheduled for 2:00pm and greeted by the interviewer at 2:25pm).
This person was very combative every time I answered to his interview questions or if I ask a question in regards to the company, salary and room to grow within the business.
At one point he asked me a question and I will quote him “while I replay to this email”. He turn to his side and and started typing and said “ok, go on, you can answer now”. I hope your company has video cameras and you can see how some interviews really go.
Before the interview was over, he told me that he doubted my language skills (English to be specific) even though I’m a canadian born but grew up somewhere else. I should clarify that I have a university degree from a recognized English Canadian university. No one can just feign knowing a language specially after you have your education done in North America. He said that people can “fake” speaking and reading English. Those were very negative remarks to my persona and my skills. I have no doubt this company is inclusive but this interviewer did not transmitted that.
With all of his negative remarks to my abilities to speak English -I have an accent but I can clearly communicate- and with his non-attention demeanour towards our interview , I can’t imagine working for someone like that. It was disrespectful not only to me and to my time but he was also disrespecting the name and image of the company. I was looking forward to the this day, I truly admire the company and it would have been an honour to get to work for them.
I don’t think this person represents the value of the company. Im sure that part of the success of this billion dollar company started because of the people working there and their relationship among colleagues and leaders.
Needless to say that i got an email stating that I was not selected. This interview taught me to keep firm and confident in my skills, perhaps you don’t always connect with a prospective employer but respect and empathy always come first.
