      Product Designer Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Meta (Seattle, WA) in May 2018

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter after a dinner & drinks event with some of the designers at Facebook. We setup a 45min chat at the Seattle office to talk a little about my background and the available positions. The recruiter was very kind and casual. The office was quite impressive as well. Next, we scheduled the initial interviews that consisted of two 45 minute video conference calls: - First interview was a portfolio walkthrough with one other designer. I was able to cover two projects thoroughly in the 45 minute period. - Second was an app critique with another designer. Choose a popular app you use on your phone and give your thoughts on what's working vs. what isn't. This is a chance to show off your product thinking skills from a UX/UI standpoint. A few days laters I received an email from the recruiter telling me they wanted to schedule the on-site interviews. She also provided lots of tips and advice on how to best prepare for the interviews which was super helpful. I was also able to do a dry-run of my presentation with the recruiter to make sure everything was tightened up a few days before the on-site. The on-site consisted of: - 30min presentation to 4-5 designers showcasing your background and a couple projects (there are no questions or feedback during this time, so don't feel weird if there's little reaction to your preso). - 1on1 app critique (different app than before) - 1on1 design challenge (whiteboard session) - 1on1 background interview (asking about experience in certain areas & situations) - Lunch with another designer to ask questions. Not an interview, more of a casual chat. - Chat with the recruiter telling you what to expect and getting an idea around compensation. A few days later I received an email from the recruiter saying they had an offer for me!

      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at Meta (London, England)

      Interview

Straightforward like any big tech interview, but long and intense. Formats are pretty standardized so it just takes practice. Questions appear like it's from a bank, so if you're prepared you should be fine.

      Interview

I was reached out by a recruiter. Started with the recruiter call, then portfolio presentation, then full loop (Portfolio presentation - app critique - design challenge - background). They had very strong emphasis on design craft and visual excellence. Recruiter who helped me prep was very nice and helpful.

      Interview

Typical interview process consisting of multiple rounds—Pre-screen, Portfolio Presentation, Full-Loop (Presentation, App Crit, Whiteboard Challenge and Behavioral) - Felt I did really well, and I got great feedback during the rounds but ultimately received no offer.
