Followed on campus recruiting process for advanced professional degree (APD) candidates. First round interview consisting of a written test and group interviews at the New York office, a second round at the New York office with 2 junior members of the firm and a decision round at my office of choice with partners. The recruiting process is very transparent and highly structured. Case difficulty in the final round varies dramatically and the Principals/Partners can do what they want (DO NOT LISTEN TO THE RECRUITERS WHEN THEY SAY PARTNERS WON'T GO OFF SCRIPT).

Fit questions can be a bit obtuse and make the process feel very contrived. Typically they will begin very generically (e.g. tell me about a time you exhibited leadership)

they let you prep for cases and do what the book says. this is only a question of how hard you prepared. then they take the people one by one and repeat again and again. sometimes the people who give you interviews have been there for less time than 1 yr

The interview is structured exactly as the preparation materials describe, i.e. personal fit and case. All interviewers were friendly and supportive. After each interview round I received helpful feedback. The cases are not easy but fair.
