      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at MathWorks (Natick, MA) in Mar 2020

      Interview

The interview process was pretty lengthy but it was well organized. I applied online from the Mathworks career portal and immediately got two emails. One was for a HireVue video interview and the other was for the coding challenge. Both of these should be completed within a week. After finishing the coding round, I got an email within 3 days asking me to self-schedule for the technical interview. Within a day of the phone interview with an EDG engineer, I got an email from an EDG manager to set up another telephonic interview. After this round, I got another call from the HR to see if I am still interested in the role and some basic HR questions. Within two days of this call, I got another call from HR confirming my onsite interview. The onsite interview was after two weeks and I was interviewed at Natick, Lakeside campus. The onsite started with a technical interview which lasted for 2 hours with an EDG engineer. This was followed by an hour's interview with the manager. Next up was an informal interview with two EDG engineers over the lunch. The final interview was with HR which lasted for about 45 min. After the onsite interview, they mailed my references for their feedback about me. After the weekend, I got a call from the HR stating that they are in the process of collecting the references but they will be going forward with the onboarding process. So the HR asked me for my Visa and I-20. After a week, I got the call from the manager confirming the offer. I got the official offer letter later that day, which I had to sign digitally to accept the offer. Overall the interview process was pretty straight forward but lengthy. All the personnel who interviewed me were very friendly and compassionate.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

HireVue:- Basic behavioral questions like why MathWorks, why are you fit for MathWorks, Explain about a project/job which made you proud, Visa status and work authorization Coding challenge- 10 questions on fundamental concepts in maths(linear algebra, probability, logical reasoning). We have an option to choose two coding questions or 10 Matlab questions. But I suggest you do both as one has ample time to finish both. Coding questions- Medium difficulty level questions in hackerrank( Overlapping matrices, the distance between two cars) Matlab questions- 10 questions on basic concepts, syntax, etc. Telephonic technical interview- Resume based, linear algebra, OOPS concepts, explain my approach to the coding questions in the coding challenge, list comprehension, basic questions on outputs of some scripts coded in python, a lot of questions related to my research(half of the interview was based on this). Ask a few good questions to the interviewer at the end that shows your interest in the position. Telephonic managerial round: Basic tell me about yourself question, resume based questions, asked a lot about my research had a feeling they were really interested in that, tell me about a project that you are most proud of and why? , questions on my experience, languages that I code in, etc. Ask him good questions at the end, this is a great chance to impress your potential hiring manager. Telephonic HR interview: Similar questions to HireVue, asked me if I still thought I was suitable for that role. Work Authorization and availability. Onsite: Technical round: Similar to the telephonic technical round Started with tell me about yourself, some resume based questions, gave an extensive overview of my thesis project, some optimization questions based on my academic project, conceptual questions on eigenvalues(Linear algebra), differentiation, integration, partial fractions, probability and optimization, Machine learning questions based on my research, OOPS concepts, some basic coding questions on code pair, Matlab questions Manager round: pretty straight forward, basic behavioral questions, asked some questions on my previous work experience An Informal interview with EDG's: HR would tell you that it's just a lunch with two EDGs. But this is an interview and you will be judged. Suggest you to ask as many questions as possible and should them your interest and excitement for that role. HR round: basic HR questions and salary expectations, date of availability and work authorization. Felt that the telephonic technical interview is the most important and difficult one to clear. All the best, hope this helps you to clear your interview
