      Construction Project Manager Interview

      Aug 26, 2022

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Macy's (Deer Park, OH) in Jul 2022

      Interview

I had an initial phone call with the recruiter and the phone conversation was pleasant. We set up a time to talk to one of the senior project managers. The job was listed as remote and I was a little skeptical that would be the case working in construction. I figured I would hear more talking to the first interviewer. The first interview with the senior project manager went well. We discussed a couple of usual questions such as why are you looking to change, how do work in an environment where everything isn’t clear, and what hobbies do you have. After hearing more about the role it had required you to travel to different stores throughout the country a couple times a week. You could also come in to the office or work from home the other days a week, which is more of a hybrid role than what was advertised. All in all the first interview was fine and I was able to get a second round interview with the director. The recruiter reached back out and set up an interview with the director During the meeting with the director he had got done with back to back meeting and mentioned he didn’t really prepare for the interview. I had found out they were looking to hire project managers since they laid off a majority of them during covid and had a backlog of projects. He had also mentioned that you would be on the road for two weeks/month visiting stores and making sure the projects were running. We wrapped up and I felt it was a little hurried. A week went by and I sent a follow up to see if they had made a hiring decision, but I did not hear back. After not hearing from the recruiter for a couple days I sent a follow up note asking where they were at in the hiring process. Alas, I did not hear anything and was ghosted by two people. At the very least I could have got an automated rejection letter. After about a weeks time I had seen they had a new posting for a project manager and this time they had listed the same position as on-site and travel required at two weeks a month. In the end it was probably best I wasn’t selected for this position.
