      Web Merchandising Writer Interview

      Nov 16, 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Menomonee Falls, WI
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Kohl's (Menomonee Falls, WI) in Sep 2012

      Interview

I was contacted for this position by a recruiter & was told to prepare to discuss my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, to take a spelling test and to write a sample product description (she hinted that the last few times it was for an orange tanktop). When I went in for the interview I met with a very nice woman who described the position to me in great detail - which drawers to file finished descriptions under, how many times we send our descriptions in for editing, so on. Then she asked me if I had any questions. And that was it, no questions on my resume or my writing. In fact, she didn't even have my resume in front of her. She then gave me 10 minutes for the spelling test (10 pairs of words, I circled the right one) and set out an orange tanktop for me to describe. After the time was up she came back and told me she went to get the head of the team I'd be hired for (boys & team, ie jerseys). He came down and didn't have my resume or any prepared questions, so again I just told him about myself and asked my own questions. It seemed like things were going well. I was to hear a final decision later that day. I didn't. I waited almost a week to hear back from the recruiter & they had said needed someone with better knowledge of sports but I hadn't been ruled out. I was never asked about my sports knowledge. I also never heard back from the recruiter as to whether I got the job. A few months later, there was another opening on the "home goods" team. It was between me and one other candidate, and she wanted us to both come back to have another interview. I went in for literally less than five minutes, the last thing she said was "you guys make this so hard for me." Again, I was supposed to hear back later that day but had to wait until the middle of the next week. I didn't get the job again and the only feedback the recruiter could give me was that the woman had said "I just had to go with my gut".
