I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at John Lewis & Partners (Birmingham, England) in Sep 2016
Interview
I took part in a group interview with 5 others, we were given a group activity then taken off individually to answer questions about ourselves. I found the group activity challenging, we had to create a leaflet and it took me a while to know what to say but my current manager advised me that generally it's more about listening to others and saying something meaningful rather than just talking as much as you can. I was asked what days I would be available to work then left after my 1:1 chat. I didn't hear anything until around 5 weeks later after chasing the store manager because it turned out they'd completely forgotten to inform ANYONE about whether they were successful, and when i was offered a position is was for the days I had told them already I was unable to work due to university commitments. Overall a disappointing experience as I already work for Waitrose and thought the process would have been handled much better than this.

Interview
I attended a group interview for a temporary Christmas position where we worked together on scenario-based tasks, discussing different approaches and demonstrating teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills throughout the process.

Question 1
How would you handle a situation where there’s a long queue of customers, some becoming impatient, while you’re short-staffed during the Christmas rush?
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at John Lewis & Partners (Cardiff, Wales) in Oct 2025
Interview
It was a group interview where we had to read several scenarios, make individual notes, and then discuss possible solutions with the rest of the group. The assessed part was the group discussion, which was challenging because some of the other participants were very loud and overly confident. This made it difficult to share my points without feeling like I was interrupting or coming across as rude. There was also no one-to-one interview at the end, so my performance was judged entirely on how I interacted within the group.
Really easy. Done a group interview where they test you on your team work, then a solo interview to see your individuality. I then found out a week later if I got the job.
