      Senior Frontend Developer Interview

      May 1, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Tel Aviv-Yafo
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Ipsos (Tel Aviv-Yafo) in Feb 2023

      Interview

I was contacted directly by some guy. The guy said he worked for Xperity which was acquired by Ipsos. Apparently they have a lot of technical debt and poor UI/UX and haven’t invested much into it. And they don’t have a structured organized recruitment process. So there are no HR people involved in the recruitment. Just the managers do it themselves. That’s a red flag. There were several steps - Call by a HR person / manager to align needs - Call by a technical developer / manager for technical chat - Online coding assignments with the technical dev. A good thing is they didn’t just hand over a coding assignment anyone can do with AI and actually invested the time to evaluate the person. The technical call consisted of basic questions related to programming. A red flag is they said they wanted a front end developer but it sounded like they actually need a full stack developer who knows python well. The interviewer knows python or C but doesn’t really know JavaScript, yet he asked a lot of questions that have different answers in different languages. Also, he was schooled in classical inheritance & It doesn’t seem like he knows much about prototypical inheritance and functional programming so you should probably stick to classes when answering questions. The interviewer said he liked what they saw and I will definitely be contacted with an offer. Alas, I was ghosted After the online coding assignment. Which is the only reason why I gave them a negative score. One thing that bothered me during the process is they kept gushing over just how good I was and how excited they were to start working and the assignment is just a formality bla bla bla. That is textbook conflict avoidance dishonesty expected from novice American (& Israeli copycat) recruiters and only works on people who have never interviewed before. It tends to grate on the person after a while. It is possible to be professional, courteous and honest, you know… which is what I would expect from a company with an actual HR department. Since there wasn’t any in this case I suppose it’s expected, but still annoying. So Please cut it out.
