      RET Engineer Interview

      Jul 19, 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Portland, OR
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Intel Corporation (Portland, OR) in Jan 2016

      Interview

Hiring manager came to campus for recruiting. Submitted my resume and got a call the same night. Invited for an on-campus interview the next day, talking to him about the phd research. Then invited for an onsite interview that happened 2 month later. Onsite interviews with 5 or 6 senior engineers after 1-hour presentation on my phd topic.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The interview questions are mostly technical, getting into details of the methodologies I used for the research project. I think they really want to test how you conduct research and the depth of your technical knowledge. It is important to prepare to articulate the details of your research, not just the results you achieved.

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Intel Corporation (Ann Arbor, MI) in Oct 2015

      Interview

The interview process was behavioral. The hiring manager was well-mannered, professional and extremely well-trained to do his job. It was an hour long and was divided into two halves - first half involved him asking about my background and discussing my resume. The second half involved behavioral questions.

Tell me a situation in which you had to face challenges and how did you successfully overcome it?

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Hillsboro, OR
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Intel Corporation (Hillsboro, OR)

      Interview

Engineer from Intel's Lithography group gave a presentation at the school, and selected 10 students for an interview the next day. It was a 40 min interview with a mix of both technical and behavioral questions. One behavioral question was "Can you handle stress? Give an example." Few were selected for an onsite interview at Portland. The onsite interview lasted whole day - 9 in morning to 4 in evening. The day started with the manager of Lithography group giving a short tour of Intel and describing the hiring process. Then, I gave a one hour presentation based on my PhD research. Lots of questions were asked by the audience during the time. Following that, I had 40 min one-on-one interviews with 5 managers in the Lithography group. All managers picked up on my research fairly quickly and asked probing questions testing the depth of my knowledge. I faced only one behavioral question - how do you handle conflict? The lunch was with two new-hires in the lithography group. The purpose was to get a perspective from recent joinees.
