I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Very smart and friendly people who can help grow you professionally
    - Very interesting and difficult engineering problems to solve - can get a bit addictive sometimes
    - Management does cares about your professional development and well-being
    - Great downtown location, compensations and perks (free metropass, etc.)
    - Low stress level - rarely have strict deadlines, and you can take time to innovate.
    - Lots of autonomy and flexibility in terms of what you work on, where and when, etc.
    - Not a lot of drama or politics.
    - Decent dedication to doing right software engineering, despite imperfections.

    Cons

    - IT infrastructure (computing farm, network storage, etc.) can't keep up with engineering needs - you can't run as many experiments as you want
    - Management sometimes overworked - means less time to care about your progress/development
    - Despite usually low stress level, occasionally you still need to just focus on getting something done instead of getting it done right.
    - Understaffed. Getting better since Intel acquired us.
    - Corporate culture is very good, but probably not as newer dynamic as places like Facebook.
    - Can feel distant from the rest of Intel since the acquisition. What the hell are they doing anyway?
    - Toronto Yorkville office could be a bit more colourful!

    Advice to Management

Keep invest in your talents. Keep growing the business. Keeping making the company a fun one to work at. Stay nimble, despite now being part of a gigantic company.

  10. "Good company but can have long hours"

I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time

    Pros

Can be given ownership of important parts. Often allowed to make independent decisions.

    Cons

Depending on the product you're working on, can be a very high-pressure environment.

    Advice to Management

Long hours aren't often highly productive. I'd suggest considering how a culture that encourages long hours affects its workforce.

I worked at Intel Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Intel is a great company as it is amongst the elite tech companies that originated in Silicon Valley. You can count companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple as peers, with similar salaries and benefits.

    Cons

The problem with Intel is that it currently has somewhat of an identity crisis. Its core chip business is plateauing, and it missed the boat on mobile, so it is trying to expand into other verticals such as wearables, VR, IoT, etc. by making acquisitions. Unfortunately, Intel has such a bad track record with acquisitions due to cultural baggage that there simply isn't any hope to incubate something big beyond their old "we're a chip company" mentality.

    Advice to Management

The gravy train is coming to an end, so start letting smarter people truly innovate by getting out of the way.
