      Business Analyst Interview

      Nov 20, 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Bowie, MD
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Inovalon (Bowie, MD) in Oct 2017

      Interview

I applied online without any referral. Got a call from the recruiting manager the very next day. The call was not scheduled ahead of time and it felt more like a pre-screening interview. I was asked to talk about my work experience. Tip: Structure your sentences such that your past experience aligns with the responsibilities of the new job. The recruiting manager got back to me a couple of hours later to schedule the next interview. My next interview was supposed to be a telephonic interview with the Product Manager only. But during the call, the team's SQL data analyst also joined which freaked me out but they limited their questions to basic Excel and SQL questions only. Some of the things I was asked - my work experience, why do I want to quit my current job, strength, weakness, why Inovalon (this seems like their favourite question- everyone who interviewed me asked me this), my Excel knowledge, SQL knowledge, how have I used Excel and SQL at my work place, how do I handle stress, an instance where I failed, and some more behavioral questions. The recruiting manager got back to me a couple of hours after the telephonic call to schedule the in-person interview. Three days later I was at the Inovalon Headquarters for my in-person interview with 4 people. 30-minute interviews with 4 people from the team you will be working in - Product Manager. Senior Product Manager, SQL Data Analyst and VP of that deaprtment. The Product Managers asked behavioral questions and a little about how I have used SQL and Excel in the past, the work that I have done in detail, challenges I faced, etc. The VP was interested in knowing me as a person- my hobbies, my interestes, commute to the work place, moving to Bowie- finding a new apartment, notice period, etc The SQL data analayst asked basic SQL and Excel questions like - write a select query, where condition, group by, etc. He also asked a couple of difficult questions, but that was only to judge my approach and understanding of the problem. He asked me how I could swap 2 values without using a temporary variable. I didnt know the exact answer, but I mentioned that you could use case and he was satisfied with the answer. He asked a couple more questions - these questions are similar to those you find on Google when you search for 'Business Analyst SQL interview questions'. The recruiting manager called me a couple of times the next day to discuss salary and visa stuff. I received my offer letter about 10 days after my interview.

      Interview

Project manager contacted me through LinkedIn and asked me if I would be interested in a business analyst position at Inovalon. I said yes. Every soon afterwards, I got phone interview with the manager. I didn't do well for phone interview. At the end of phone interview, the manager asked me to prepare two presentations for the on-site interview: one for medical claim process and the other for process modeling. During the on-site interview, I wasn't able to answer a couple of questions about SQL queries. I didn't not get the job. However, people at Inovalon left a very good impression on me: they are very friendly.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Inovalon (Silver Spring, MD) in Jan 2018

      Interview

After I applied on line, I received a phone screen about 2 weeks later. Following the phone interview, I was scheduled to have a phone interview with the hiring Manager. The phone interview with the hiring manager was very technical and lasted 45 minutes. I was asked many questions on software, and programming languages. Be ready to answer tough questions and make sure you are super knowledgeable and very eloquent, otherwise you won't make the cut.
