      Customer Support Specialist Interview

      Jun 6, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot in Jun 2019

      Interview

For me, this was a pretty uneventful interview process. I really do not think my experience was the usual for them but 'meh' is exactly how I felt about it. I submitted an application on their website on May 9th and heard back quite quickly about a submitting my availability for a phone interview for the week of the 20th. I did so and received a confirmation for May 27th, the following week. This seemed a little odd to me, especially since that was Memorial Day but I did not want to push the interview off for even longer. On that day, I did not receive a call. I figured this must have been a mix up, not taking into account the holiday. I emailed my interviewer that afternoon about the mix up, no reply. Two days later, I had a voicemail from my recruiter saying I had missed my time on the 29th and if I would like to reschedule, I should send him an email. He definitely had me confused with another candidate based on the schedule mix up and he had the location I applied for wrong. A little bit of a turn off from the company but I know life can be hectic and I was willing to make it work. I emailed him again about what I thought was happening and decided on a new time to talk. I had read so many great reviews about the interview process so I wasn't going to hold a grudge. I had a phone interview a week later and it was just as anticlimactic as the process had previously been. He called me on a mobile phone and then needed to hang up 30 seconds later to switch to his landline. I was asked the 3 most generic questions in interview history and have never felt more uninteresting in my life. He said he used to work in the field I am currently working in and that it 'sucked'. Oh well. It lasted about 15 minutes and to be honest, I was happy when it was over. Two days later, I had computer generated generic email stating that they had reviewed my application and that we would not be moving forward. As I said before, I do not think this is how they usually do business. Perhaps he was just having a bad month. I'll look at it as a good opportunity for getting my resume cleaned up.

Hi there - I'm sorry for the delayed follow up on this one, particularly given the subpar experience you had. I've shared your feedback with our Customer Support recruiting team - this is a really good learning opportunity particularly for newer folks on the team and we're making sure that everyone is approaching their phone interviews with candidates in a way that is human and authentic as well as thorough and thoughtful. Thanks for the push to get better here - I appreciate it. Best, Becky
