      Lead Data Scientist Interview

      Jan 15, 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Hopper (New York, NY) in Nov 2019

      Interview

There were 4 interview steps . First interview was with the VP of DataScience. Second interview step was a take home problem. Third, was an interview to discuss the take home. 4th interview was an interview with the Chief Fata Scientist. The take home was no time limit so I could turn it in whenever I wanted. So I had no idea how much time they wanted me to spend on it. This I think is a bit unfair. I am a very busy person. I have a lot of weekend side projects and other teams I work with and papers to read. I dont want to have to guess how much effort you want me to put in. Please just give the candidate the task and ask then to complete within N hours. The most aggregious problem I had with the process was that after 4 steps and frankly a lot of time put into the entire process and even the Chief Fata Scientist asking me when I could start, etc. I never got a call back or even a notification that they had chosen another candidate. This is after I reached out just to get the status because honestly I was interested in the position. And it does stink to get rejected but what they did to me is completely insulting especially since I have a lot of other positions to consider if they are going to pass on me. Not calling or even sending a rejection email after 4 interview stages is completely unacceptable and tells me everything I need to know about the company. Yes, I am bitter, but rightfully so.
