      Servicing Engineer/Chemical Engineer Interview

      Nov 7, 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Vellore
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Honeywell (Vellore) in Nov 2014

      Interview

Honeywell as a company had come to the Vellore Institute of Technology, India to recruit students from various branches for internships. Around 25 students from the chemical engg department had registered, thinking it's an IT or tech solution post. When the shortlist came out, it was surprising to find that no chemical engg student was shortlisted. But, the next day, around 15 students were called by a batch mate informing us that there was a mistake and that we were to be at the interview hall in 15 mins. I got there in time, around 12pm to find out from Honeywell representatives that the job opening was actually for UOP and that it's a proper job offer and not an internship. The opening was a travelling job around the world for INR 800,000 per annum with a bond of 5 years. They dropped a bombshell like that and conducted the GD. 7 of us got picked for the next round, the technical interview. The interview went quite well and I had to wait for 3 hours for the others to get done and the results to be announced. Around 6pm, a lady from the Honeywell recruitment team comes in and asks a friend and I to follow her. She seated us outside a room where according to us, the next round was to take place. The other student who was called in with me enquired whether this was the HR interview and whether anyone else was shortlisted. She answered yes and no respectively. We were quite happy that we'd been selected and I wasn't surprised cause the other student's interview had gone really well and he'd expected to be selected. So I spent the next 1 hour thinking how the next 5 years of my life was going to be. When we realized that nothing was happening and no updates had been given, we walked out in search of the lady who'd seated us. Surprisingly, we found her giving the HR interviews to 2 other students who were part of the original 7. On confronting her, she turned out to be the only HR in charge and she had no idea what was happening. After 20 mins of looking through several lists and asking us what was happening, she says that the other 2 were actually selected and we were rejected. She didn't have the common sense to clarify with the person who had conducted our interviews. The absolute disgust at how the recruitment team worked and coordinated, with the absence of common sense and without any regard to human sentiment, forced us to walk out of there thinking about what had just happened.

      Question 1

It was quite strange that the interviewer spent a while talking to me about my father's job profile and my brother's career choices.
