Senior Software Engineer - Frontend Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Genesys in Aug 2022

      Interview

      1) Recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn. It was a nice and friendly approach, lots of interesting details that peeked my interest. I agreed and applied via a referral link. 2) I then had a 30 mins Zoom call with the recruiter. Great vibes on that call. Just some generally questions about my experience, skills, the role, salary expectations etc. I could tell that the recruiter I was dealing with was a people person, this phase went well. 3) The next phase was a 1 hour Zoom call with the hiring manager and director. It ended up just being the hiring manager. I was asked various technical questions, from frontend to DevOps related questions (this role is for UI - DevOps). It wasn't too technical but I think my experiences just happen to suit this role and the questions perfectly. I was able answer and relate to most of the questions - lots on testing, i.e. integration and regression testing for frontend. The interviewer was very friendly, I didn't feel any type of pressure at all and we had a great session. 3) The next round was a take home code challenge. It involved using a modern frontend framework to utilise a real API and then cleanly displaying the data. I had to submit via GitHub. The aim here is to showcase your experience and knowledge of a version control (Git), frontend framework, API, design and testing. They wanted to see some application testing i.e. unit, e2e etc. This round was fantastic and I enjoyed it a lot because the end product relates to the real world. It totally suited me and my experiences, unlike the typical Hackerrank algorithms challenges that some companies seem to love. 4) The final round was a 1.5 hrs technical screen share Zoom call with a panel of 4. In the end I only had the call with 2 people - the hiring manager and another manager. This round was primarily me just walking through my code from the challenge. I ran my code, talked about my approach, went through testing and then talked about where I fell short and what I wanted to do to improve it. The aim here is to simply show you know your own stuff and be yourself! We then finished off with some general technical and soft skills questions. I felt at ease during this round. After that, I got an offer within a few days. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I got a great sense of culture from all involved.
