I applied for a couple of PM positions online at Genesys, early in January 2014. The HR got back to me for a set of different positions as the site wasn't updated per the HR. I had the initial HR round as well at this time. After reviewing, I indicated my interest in the Portfolio Manager position aligning with my background and skill-sets.
The 2nd level was with the hiring manager who asked quite a bit of questions pertaining to the role and my experience around it. After this call, I was given an assignment to work on a Product launch from the existing Genesys portfolio and was given a week to finish it
I did quite a bit of reasearch, and submitted a proposal decent enough. The hiring manager indicated that the proposal was good and that they would like to move forward. At this point I got a call from the HR confirming that they had liked me and wanted to hire me.
The hiring manager, indicated, that they needed to have a final level, a phone interview with a Director of Professional Services. The 3rd level call with the Director went decent enough, half hour long. The questions were all around Professional Services. One of the questions asked was what do you understand by VSOE. An Accounting term that is practiced in software organzations for revenue recognition. Unfortunately, though I knew quite a bit about it, I was just brain dead for some reason.
The conversation ended. The back n forth process too 2 months.
I never got a reply from the HR after the last call with the Director. I did enquire the status only to know they had decided to move forward with another candidate, as he had comparitively more years on him in the Product line while I had a mix of PS/Product.
