I applied through university. I interviewed at General Motors (GM) in Oct 2014
Interview
I was recruited at campus recruiting. Went through a basic screen (non-technical). I made it to the interview and it was largely behavioral, but they did ask about project I had worked on and we discussed technical aspects. No random questions about beam bending or anything, just about what I had worked on and put on my resume. They also flew potential hires out to Michigan, which was honestly a lot of fun and very informative.

HackerRank first round sent after submitting application. Did not make it passed this round so I do not know the rest. Rejection came a few weeks after confidently completing the fairly easy questions.

I applied online. I interviewed at General Motors (GM)
Interview
Required a video answering questions about things like "Describe a time you solved a challenging problem". It was very STAR format friendly and allowed for about 2 retries per question. It was timed, however. If you look up generic soft questions and prepare your anecdotes in advance you should be fine.

Question 1
Describe a time you had conflict with a team member and how you handled it
Interview was a nice experience. Talked with three different managers at the company, each of who seemed genuinely interested in my background and experience. Very welcoming and open to discus what work at GM would be like!
