I worked at General Motors (GM) full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Was a great work environment for the most part. Most management had worked the production line many years before so they understood how it was. Most fellow employees were amazing and made the days better. Lots of overtime which was nice for extra money. Recognition for going above job expectations from management.

    Cons

Pressure to complete jobs in an unreasonable environment at times. Quantity over quality seemed to be the goal for some upper management team members. Biggest con is Mary Barra deciding to close our plant even though we launched a plant in a short amount of time and ran amazing quality and production numbers.

I have been working at General Motors (GM) full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great work life balance, you can choose to work as much as you like. - Open office and mostly great co-workers - Great place to retire and enjoy life - Great job security

    Cons

    - Dino tech stack, old IBM tool that even iBM wouldn't use. - Poor management, all based on politics not principles. - Mangers are awful role models, they have no technical background and will screw over the whole team just to help themselfs. - Not a good place for new grad or people who want to do real software. - Very hierarchical, experienced GM employee are threatened by new grads who actually understand software. - No career development, Manager have no interest in helping you. Even if you are a great fit for a role, your manager can lobby you out of a switch. Switching teams can be impossible if you manager is selfish. - Can not trust managers, dishonest and reviews are based on how much they like you...not how hard you worked. -All the smart people leave over time and get better offers else where, so you will not be learning from the best.
