      Electrical Design Engineer Interview

      Sep 14, 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Tulsa, OK
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Garmin (Tulsa, OK) in Jul 2021

      Interview

3 interviews. I was contacted approximately 24hrs after completing the application an HR recruiter who setup a phone interview with a Technical Recruiter. - that interview was primarily to determine if I met the requirements for the position. He essentially had me walk through my resume and then asked me some basic stuff like why I wanted to leave my current position and what drew me to Garmin. The second interview was an onsite (in Tulsa) with the team leader. This two-part interview started with him also wanting me to walk through my resume and describe my experience as well as some basic "get to know you" questions. After a short break, he brought in 3 additional team members (all engineers) to introduce me. Brief period of asking about resume, then on to the technical portion. - This consisted of solving basic filter design, transistor theory, and signal analysis questions on a whiteboard. If you have been out of school for a while, be sure to brush up on some of these basics before going in. The third "interview" was a final follow-up video interview with the technical recruiter I spoke with at first to answer any additional questions I may have as well as salary expectations. I was told I would hear back "either way" by the middle of the following week. It was a very smooth interviewing process. There are only a few things that were bothersome. 1. I was never contacted regarding a decision. After going through the interview process, that should be a courtesy every company provides. Particularly in an experienced position with only 4 serious candidates. 2. (a continuation) When I sent an email to the HR recruiter, after waiting an additional week; inquiring if a decision had been made; I received no response. -This is not in line with the professionalism Garmin seeks to portray. 3. Garmin's website mentions sending a thank you to the people you interacted with during the interview process. Be sure to ask for their contact info DURING the interview process. I was not made aware of this until after the interview when I emailed the HR recruiter (the only person I had contact info for) requesting respective emails when I was informed that Garmin's policy prohibits him from providing contact information. Instead, he informed me that he would forward any correspondence to the respective individuals. -This makes the 'thank you' much less professional and sufficiently more awkward. In summary: the interview process was smooth but I was not pleased with the lack of communication regarding the decision on the position and lack of response to my own follow-up. The technical interview can be more challenging if you have been out of school for several years working in a position which you don't consistently use that information.
