      User Experience Architect Interview

      Feb 8, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Esri (Washington, DC) in Feb 2018

      Interview

Recruiter called end of December. Technical phone screen done in January. Had a request for onsite early February. So far so good. The onsite was a intense whole day interview. Half hour Presentation followed by 7 one-hour-long one-on-one sessions. I kept asking them what’s the focus of the role in both the initial phone screen, and technical screen phone call. They said overall user journey and user research. So I highlighted my research experience and strategy aspect. Two days after onsite, I got a call from recruiter saying that they are not going to move forward with me because I don’t have enough design experience. The truth is they didn’t even say this is primarily a design role. The recruiter also said they will edit the job title and description to reflect it’s a design focused role. They could have done that before I spend the whole weekend doing a research focused presentation and spend the whole day talking with them about research and strategy. The question they asked me are all research, process and strategy focused. They should really know what they are looking for before they ask people to go to their whole day onsite interview.
