      Sportsbook Analyst Interview

      Jun 25, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at DraftKings (Boston, MA) in May 2019

      Interview

The first phone call was with HR. We talked about my resume, what I knew about the company and a simple probability question. I was notified that I would move on to the next round very quickly. The next round was a phone call with a business/data analyst where we discussed a case study involving simple probability and expected value. Again, I was told I would be moving to the next round very quickly. A few days later, I had another phone call case study with another business/data analyst involving different questions related to a coffee shop. After the 2 case studies, I was contacted by HR to schedule an in-person interview in Boston at their headquarters. HR was very nice to accommodate me in a nice hotel and took care of booking travel as well. I was told I would have roughly 5-6 interviews throughout the day, two of them being case studies in the morning. The first case study was with a analytics manager and it involved trying to optimize a train system that has been experiencing delays. I admit I struggled a bit with a few of the questions but I think I was able to work with the manager throughout the problem and eventually came to a solution. The next case study I think I nailed perfectly and was given good feedback by the interviewer- it involved pricing a DraftKings pool appropriately (includes simple probability and math). The next part of the day involved getting lunch with two analysts. The lunch part felt rushed as we only had about 30 minutes but after lunch is where things started to take a weird turn. HR came into my room and told me the next interviewer (a Director) was booked for another meeting he had to take and would not be able to meet with me. HR told me he would circle back with the morning interviewers and decide if they should move forward. At this point, I had a bad feeling about the process and was told to basically head to the airport. As I expected, HR informed me a few days later that they would not be moving forward due to lack of industry experience however my 3 years of financial analytics experience flows into all industries. Overall the process was smooth and straightforward however I wish I got feedback from the case studies (especially the first one) as well as an opportunity to meet with everyone I was scheduled to meet as it would give a more wholesome view of my candidacy.
