Firstly I was indicated by someone who already worked there, so it was already a good start. A skype call was arranged with the recruiting company (Randstad) for a first screening, followed by email communication exchanging the position details and my CV. After that I had an interview with the group leader, by skype (as I lived overseas at that time) and finally an interview with a soon to be colleague, for deeper technical questions. After a few weeks I received a positive feedback from the recruiter and was asked to sign the contract.
