I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Coinbase (San Francisco, CA) in Sep 2017
Interview
Initial call by recruiter to set up a google hang out with the hiring manager. This was about 6 weeks after I applied online. The hang out interview lasted about 30 minutes and was informal. The interviewer was professional and asked open-ended questions about work experience, challenges and management style (since this was a management position). The interviewer informed me that there was a healthy pipeline of qualified candidates. Briefly explained the full recruiting process for those who would be advancing, which included on-site interviews with a few more members of the compliance team, including a direct report.. Then a paid one-day work trial.
I was invited to an onsite interview within a week. The recruiter was welcoming and gave a quick tour of the place. All the interviewers were professional, friendly and prepared with questions. All of them asked about management style.
Within a week, the recruiter set up a call to explain that an offer had been made to someone who was farther in the process.

Interview
I applied online and two weeks later I was asked to do a phone screen. The screen went well and I waited three weeks before speaking with the hiring manager. That conversation went well, but it was another two weeks before I heard back. I was told to prepare for six hours of interviews and a presentation. I provided the recruiting manager some times, and they scheduled part of the interview over my vacation. I spent two days in a hotel room preparing and developing a presentation for the role. The first day was intense, but went well. The second day I had another interview with the hiring manager; however, they said derogatory things about me and my work and insulted me. - telling me my response and work was worthless. I was asked to give a virtual presentation; but, at that point it fell flat and after spending 100+ hours on it, I couldn't go through with it. I read through the slides and knew I was a) not getting the role and b) had my 15+ years of experience impugned by someone who didn't know me. Like other coinbase interviewees I never heard back. NDA . Long Presentation. I gave up my vacation because I really believed in the company and role and I wasted time and money on this organization.
