I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Checkly in Aug 2025
Interview
1. Recruiter call (15 minutes very short screening call to make sure you are who you claim you are on the CV).
2. Hiring manager (Team lead) (45 minutes, 25 minutes question, the rest 20 minutes for you to ask questions). It was fair interview about previous experiences and situations. Nothing extra ordinary.
3. Take home challenge. Implement a feature they have on their roadmap using Nodejs. Write tests and explain your choices in a readme file. It should be hosted in a private repository in github shared with some members of checkly.
4. Interview with the hiring manager and a senior engineer. It should focus on tech skills, collaboration and on-call experience. The questions were generic and again many behavioral and situational questions. Only one question about the coding challenge which gave the impression that they didn't really take a deep look at the code and just picked up any shallow question they could find.
5. Interview with the CEO.
I haven't made it to the offer stage due to lack of on-call experience that they didn't mention in their job offering and in any of their initial interviews. The feedback felt a bit shallow and only reflected a closed-mindset. From the way the interviewers asked and answered questions, I also had the impression this is not a fit for me either. So no bad feelings.

Interview
The interview process is clearly laid out in their Hiring Playbook: short People Ops screening, hiring manager interview, take-home challenge, team interview, and a final interview with one of the founders.
The entire process was excellent. People Ops kept me updated. The application questions and take-home challenge were well-designed and very applicable to the role. After each round, they gave me a decision quickly. Everyone I interviewed with was kind, respectful, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about their jobs.
I know all the glowingly positive reviews are a bit suspicious, but they really do care about treating people respectfully and have put a lot of thought into their culture and recruiting process.
Interviewing for this role was a truly positive experience. I appreciated the clear communication and the structured process. I received quick and transparent feedback throughout. The interview was focused on my previous experience plus some technical questions about networking fundamentals and apis
