Question 1
Tell me when you went out of your way and above for a manager.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at CarMax (Saint Louis, MO) in Jul 2017
Interview
I went in for a part time sales consultant part time position. I was interviewed by a Buyer whohad been with company for 11 years. I have been selling cars for 5 years, got out of the industry and with a job I love, but was planning on doing some traveling so I applied at carmax because there's no such thing as a part time car salesman in a real dealership setting. After sitting down the Blake, I figured out real quick that most of the people at carmax have absolutely no clue how to actually sell cars. This guy couldn't even keep up with me when using car sales jargon, It was pretty sad. I was more qualified for his job then he was, yet the hours were far worse then a regular dealership, and as a salesman the profit margins aren't as great so you have to sell a lot of cars to make money. Carmax, can keep there job, I remain in my career field and enjoy my weekends off, and evening, I can't call somebody my boss, who clearly isn't capable of knowing all facets of the car sales process. Carmax is a joke.
I applied online. I interviewed at CarMax (Oceanside, CA)
Interview
I had a disappointing experience with interview process. After submitting an online application, I was contacted by a hiring manager/recruiter who scheduled a 20-minute phone interview for a specific date and time.
Unfortunately, no one called at the agreed-upon time, and I did not receive any communication explaining the missed interview or offering to reschedule. A few days later, I received an automated rejection email.
The lack of communication and professionalism throughout the process was frustrating. If a company chooses to move forward or not move forward with a candidate, at least a basic courtesy and timely communication is expected.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Are you available for a 20 minutes phone interview next week?
About a 15-20 minute phone interview. Basic questions like past job experience, are you comfortable with customer service? If they like you, you move on to an in person interview. A scripted interview with one of the sales managers asking open ended questions on why you would be a good candidate, if you have sales experience, & that you understand it is a 100% commission position. You will then complete a sales exercise on the lot, where you complete a brief walkaround of a vehicle & present some obvious features & benefits of the vehicle. If you get passed that, you meet the General Manager where he/she will be the final decision. He asked repetitive questions the sales managers did & then asked specific questions like "Describe a time you sold a product, what was the determining factor that resulted in the customer buying that product?"
