Phone interview with a recruiter followed by a round of in-person interviews, an hour each back-to-back. I interviewed with team members in a group panel, and then hiring managers, and then the director or something-or-other of the group. Pretty conversational interviews, more of the getting to know you style with some behavioral questions thrown in. As a woman interviewing with men in an IT-related product role, however, I felt that the managers were incredibly condescending, and I’ve worked in IT for over 10 years. At one point I was even told that I “seem nice”, and the interviewer fell just short of saying outright that I couldn’t handle the role (which, I should say, was basically the same role I held at the time). I’d been at Best Buy as a contractor in the past (it seems they mostly have contractors in these roles), and my experience had been largely positive so the interview experience took me by surprise and left a bad impression. The recruiter was pretty good to work with, got back to me within a week or so to tell me that they were re-evaluating the role, I never followed up, but about a month later got the automated “thanks for applying” email.
