I worked at Best Buy part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Employee discount, co workers, management and training, useful advice and experience, and really fun if you enjoy technology. Even further opportunities in the company itself opens up when you progress through the ladder (and even when youre a student).

    Cons

Not selling services is frowned upon, no matter how high you sell and how well your sales numbers are. Holiday season is rough and schedules are sometimes not respected as there are mandatory work periods.

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you do for the most part, its just one thing. Sometimes understanding why services are not sold (examples: bad experience with services, price, just not wanting to buy warranty) are key. Putting more pressure on sales teams makes them feel ungrateful on either end of the spectrum (where you had amazing services attach or just happened to have a dry period). Being more grateful towards sales team...

I have been working at Best Buy part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Amazing employee discount - Good benefits after 6 months, even for part-timers - Very friendly work environment, co-workers feel like family - Extremely friendly management - Flexible scheduling - Relaxed tempo, provided your store is meeting metrics - Fun out-of-work events to take place in - Opportunity to meet representatives of AAA tech companies - Most leadership very willing to help employees learn and...

    Cons

    - Far too much drama, gossip and focus on politics, especially in upper management - Favouritism from management can lead to stunted opportunities and growth for some employees and an unfair advantage for others (keep in mind both of the above points are handled on a store to store basis and don't necessarily reflect the company as a whole) - As a sales person, environment is at times far too reminiscent of a commissioned...

    Advice to Management

Breathe a little, and focus more on solid customer service than hitting metrics and numbers. The company makes money regardless, but exemplary service and customer satisfaction is what brings people back to the store. Strong-arming customers into getting protection plans doesn't cultivate a desireable customer experience. Also, either bring commission into play or cut back on the expectations of employees, because again,...

I have been working at Best Buy part-time for less than a year

      Pros

As a sales associate, this is by far one of the best jobs you can get. I've worked at other places before and Best buy has the best environment out off all of them. Once you work for more than 6 months you get a really good benefits plan as well even if you're part time.

      Cons

No bonuses for performing well. Not a whole lot of room to move up the corporate ladder.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time for less than a year

      Pros

Fun coworkers, lots of opportunities for team building. The management and staff are very respectful and understanding for the most part.

      Cons

Though we were taught in official training not to give discounts in order to make our protection plan budget, there us a tremendous amount of pressure from the management to do just that. I work only part time but my availability is open so i end up working weekday mornings a lot, weekday mornings are rarely busy so I get confronted about my sales numbers regularly. I cant change the fact that no one is in the store.

      Advice to Management

I know reaching budget is important, but try not to take it out on the lower staff.
