      Lead Java Developer Interview

      Jan 31, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Manchester, England
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Barclays (Manchester, England) in Jan 2023

      Interview

A one-stage interview that covers behavioural and overall in-depth technical knowledge of Java, Spring boot, databases and infrastructure. The interviewer was nice and friendly. The questions were asked in a way to encourage discussion rather than to "catch you out". When I said I couldn't remember or didn't know something, he asked questions that helped me remember or explained what it was. One of the best interview experiences I had. Felt more like a technical discussion with a friend rather than an interview. He was open about the challenges they face and how they're approaching them. He answered all my questions honestly and discussed our programming language interests at the end. I only rejected the offer because it was similar to what I am currently getting so besides the great experience, there was no real incentive.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      - How would you design a microservice that can handle a high load? - What are the spring boot scopes and describe each one - Explain the different types of joins and when you would use them. - How does the HashMap work underneath the hood - What is multi-threading and what scenario can you use it - Other leadership questions
