      IT Project Manager Interview

      Jun 14, 2011
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Bank of America (New York, NY) in Feb 2011

      Interview

found a listing through my college's career site and got an internship with them through it. signed up through my school's system, and the interview was scheduled for 30 minutes. figured it would be a fairly straightforward interview, and prepared by thoroughly going through my resume and practicing the typical interview questions. met with the interviewer in the morning and the session did turn out as i expected. went over my resume and asked questions like, "describe a difficult situation you faced, and how did you overcome it?" very straightforward. near the end, the interviewer surprised me by asking if i had extra time for a more technical interview. fortunately, i did have the time, but it came out of nowhere and turned out to be an additional 30 minute technical interview with another person. the technical portion was not like i had experience before. there were no brain teasers or test questions. he mostly asked more technical questions about my resume and classwork like, "what kind of languages did you use on so and so project?" or "what's your favorite programming language and why?" got called back for a second round interview the next day. it consisted of another one-on-one interview with yet another different interviewer. the questions still focused on my resume and past experience but seemed more focused on how it fit with the position. i took this opportunity to ask a lot of questions about the nature of the work, work culture, and career path of the interviewer. she was very kind about answering them and was open and willing to answer all of them. they said they would let me know whether i got the position after the interview, but there was no response at all for months so i assume i didn't get the position. tried to ask for a card or a way of contacting them after the interview, but they had none to offer.

      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Bank of America (Charlotte, NC) in Dec 2018

      Interview

It was a two part interview. First, a one hour phone interview. Pretty standard questions: tell me about your past experience, how do you feel you would be right for the role, how do you feel your experience would fit in the particular position. Second interview was suppose to be in-person but due to scheduling conflicts we agreed on another phone interview. This ended up being a quick 30 minute call with the exact position requirements and expectations along with a few more standard questions. All-in-all, both individuals were very friendly, well spoken people. They knew exactly what they needed to fill the position and didn't beat around the bush with trick questions.

      Interview

I was pre-screened by contract company. i had two 30 minute interviews with BOA managers and a few weeks later the decision was made. The speed of interview process always follows the demand for work. Because there is so much work and so high turn over for qualified IT PM's the interview process is quick.

      Question 1

We do our project management through excel documents... Can you keep up with that? This is a Billion dollar bank. Come to find out we don't report directly to he main PMO. Different standards. It' also called a shadow IT PMO. Amazing how many company's still shove IT back in the corner even though they are spending millions on it.
