      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Mar 8, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Asana

      Interview

Sent a resume. Got a rejection letter I wasn't a "fit", although I've send the same resume to Amazon, Google and LinkedIn and got calls, follow up interviews, interviews in process, and an offer from one (rejected as the move/relocation/team wasn't ideal for our family after researching the move). Found Asana and culture description, great product (we actually use where I work), and online looked like a very appealing, open and a diverse culture. A bit surprised I couldn't be a fit, unless their diversity doesn't include more seasoned (aka age discriminated people). Overall, odd in the last month, every resume I've sent has been responded to with either a follow up call, interview, or onsite. There were 2 positions I applied for at Asana, both that I've delivered large scale solutions still working in the marketplace today. Looking at the profiles on Linkedin of their current engineers, the only difference I see is I'm more qualified and older ;-) Apparently the latter part weighs more negatively? Dunno, if you are thinking of applying and over 45. Maybe expect a pass from them. Be curious instead of a generic response here, if Asana has any real "diversity" number showing how many engineers they have that are over 45 and female/male?

If a tree falls in the wood and no one is there to file the bug, is it still a bug?

Hello, I'm Anna Binder, Asana’s head of People Operations. We're deeply committed to not discriminating against anyone in our hiring practices so I'm saddened to hear that you were left with this impression. While I can't speak to the specific reasons for which we declined your candidacy, I can speak to our recruiting team's ongoing search for qualified experienced engineers — it is, in fact, one of our greatest hiring priorities right now. It's hard for me to give you more pointed feedback because your review is anonymous, but if you'd like some more information or to ask any follow up questions, you can email me at abinder@asana.com.

      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Warsaw, Masovia
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at Asana (Warsaw, Masovia)

      Interview

Very nice and well-structured recruitment process from an HR perspective, with full interview rounds covering a wide range of topics. The highlight was the opportunity to speak directly with engineers from the company, which gave great insight into the team and the role. Unfortunately, the behavioral interview did not go as well as expected, as I did not showcase my experience and strengths strongly enough, which ultimately led to not moving forward in the process.
