External recruiter reached out to me, met with dept. head, was told I'd be moving to a 2nd round of interviews, weeks later was informed they decided to hire internally instead.

Interview
Many, many rounds with very nice people, thought I was surprised I didn’t land the role given how well each round seemed to go and how promising they sounded. Having that many rounds and them confirming that I’d be ready to start the following week gave me positive signals, so I was surprised when I was abruptly rejected.
