      Management Consulting Consultant Interview

      Sep 17, 2011
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Accenture in Aug 2010

      Interview

I had an interview for Accenture Management Consulting, One of the Big 4 Consulting firm in the world. I had the interview for Gurgaon or Mumbai Location in 2010. In India Accenture function for their Management Consulting division from these two offices. The job position was of Management Consultant and the profile was of "Planning of Large Scale Projects Building in Power, Oil& Gas , Mineral & Mining Sector". Recently they have started giving consulting to very big names in there core sector in India. For this profile in most of the job portal their prefered requirement is B.E/B.Tech in Mechanical/ Civil Engineering with min 5 yrs work ex in Project Management/Project Planning in setting up large scale projects + MBA form tob B-School or atleast PMP certification. I am a Mechaincal Engineer with more than 5 years of work ex in Project Management profile in setting up large scale Power and Steel Plant projects for two of big name in India. I had the required work-ex however didnt have other qualification like MBA of PMP. I have received a call regarding this profile from a Job consultant and my 1st round of telephonic interview scheduled after two days. After two days the 1st round of telephonic interview taken by one Senior Manager. The interview last for one and half hour and it was in very detail regarding all concepts of Project Planning. Setting up in steel & power projects, on scheduling tools like Primavera and Ms. Project. After two days i was informed by the Accenture HR that I am through with the 1st round and the 2nd round of telephonic interview will be taken after 5 days. but on the scheduled day and time for 2nd interview I didnt received the call. later when I enquired with teh HR, she said may be the person was busy at that time. after 3 days again the 2nd round of telephonic interview was scheduled after 5 days. The 2nd round of telephonic interview was taken by a Senior manager from Gurgaon office. It was last for more than 1.5 Hour and it comparises of all related to practical aspect of planning in setting up large scal projects and many case studies. After the interview the Hr informed that if i will be through 2nd round they will call for 3rd & final round for face-face with top management. But after 4 days i was informed by the HR at this moment they cant process my profile further. She informed that I was through 2nd round but profile is on hold. So this was the most ambigous part of the interview process. Regarding the people and company brand its the best. It will give the best exposure into consulting with top brands as client. Also I gather info that they pay very high but the work involves extensive travelling to many plant site locations. But the most confusing part is the way the selection process ended. So like most of the people say once you joined Accenture then only you can say you are inside Accenture. And once you are there it wil give u immense exposure. But many ppl are not sure what really happedn during the selection procedure.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Accenture (Melbourne) in Mar 2018

      Interview

The process started in Dec'17 but due to holidays stretched to early Feb'18. 4 rounds in total. 1st HR phone screen, then skills interview with a Senior Manager, then a behavioural interview by a lady in US and final interview with Managing Director of the consulting vertical. The process took about 6 weeks. The managing director informed me that it might take further 2-3 weeks before the offer is made as they had to create a "billable resource profile" for me. HR informed me that I have been successful and that he is getting some approvals. In one of the calls, he discussed the remuneration and joining date for mid-April and asked me to send my passport and visa details for VEVO check. After several more follow-ups, I was informed that the team is getting aligned with global workforce (i.e. internal restructuring) and the position is on hold till mid-April so that they can set up the cost centres etc. Mid-April, I received the call from HR informing me that the system set up is now complete and should be able to get things moving within next 2-4 days and that he still need to get some approvals, though he gave me an indicative joining date for mid-May. However, its now close to 2 weeks and no response from HR. Overall experience of the interview process was very good. Each part of the process serves a unique purpose like: - HR round: Initial screening to check whether you have the right experience and skills for the role. - Skills Interview: To check your problem solving skills (I was given 2 case studies / scenarios) - Behavioural interview: To check whether you have the right mindset to be part of Accenture. The interview was quite gruelling and detailed. But after the one-hour interview, I chatted for further 1/2 hour more with the interview lady on range of topics from spirituality, Hollywood, Oscars, Australia, Trump..... :) - Final interview: This to me is most important interview and IMO this one is about checking whether you can be a thought leader. Questions are generally about industry trends and what I think about them. Glad I read some insightful articles about the business vertical before the interview.

I applied through university. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Accenture (Washington, DC) in Oct 2016

      Interview

On college campus interview. First round behavioral. Second round was the case study. From there if you got past the first round, you got asked back for a case study interview. Process very straight forward. They had events on campus leading up to the interviews. They were all very nice and professional. Interviewer had a computer screen in front of them making it a little awkward to have a conversation.

      Interview
