Does Sephora offer dental insurance?

Pros

Sephora is a great company in that it strives to be a voice for those under-represented in our community. It aims to provide an inclusive culture and genuinely focuses on policies and programs that benefit the consumer. The corporate level of Sephora offers access to a lot of exclusive events and "in-communities" that promote diversity in the workplace. Sephora provides health, dental and vision benefits along with other "perks" that occur throughout the year. My team is especially hard-working and are always striving to push the envelope to improve company performance. Jean Andre is the best! Hilarious and honest.

Cons

Some of the departments/teams at the corporate level are undervalued compared to the rest of the corporate office. The majority of mid-level employees (hourly) are underpaid compared to the upper echelons in other departments. From what I've seen personally, the hourly employees are the ones putting in the most work to keep the company running but don't get afforded the luxury to participate in company "Summer Fridays" and other "perks" provided throughout the year. Similar entry-level positions in different areas of the company pay significantly better for the same or less amount of work. Sephora provides an annual continuing education program but there are limited spaces available. What spaces that are available are "sold out" within the same day. From within my own team, the opportunities for promotion and growth seem limited. I can't speak for other departments.

Advice to Management

Take a hard look at how you're paying employees. Why are some valued more over others? Why are some departments repeatedly given awards for their performance but others are ignored? The growth and stability of the company can't be attributed only to the creative departments.

Does Sephora offer parental leave?

Pros

Interesting day-to-day work; fast paced, never boring. Sephora generally hires talented people.

Cons

Failure to live up to publicly stated corporate values of Work Life Balance and Respect for All. Meeting-intense culture (all day back-to-backs). Minimal diversity within many large departments. HR and others openly joked about “the one male” in the room on several occasions, resulting in an uncomfortable environment. Multiple instances of senior marketing leadership engaging in retaliation for those perceived to make the individual look bad. Unwillingness to paint a true, complete picture of business results – leadership is focused on “marketing the marketing”, while omitting or minimizing any unfavorable results. Bullying behaviors that are reported to HR – and widely acknowledge by the VP community – are allowed to continue, contributing to an overall toxic environment. Surprisingly poor maternity leave policy. Huge exodus of talent in the past year.

Advice to Management

Single set of shared corporate priorities. Sharper focus on key competitive threats from direct-to-consumer brands, Ulta, and Amazon.

Surprisingly poor maternity leave policy.

Does Sephora offer a wellness program?

Pros

Access to generous gratis program. Great for aspiring artists and beauty enthusiasts to grow their kit or collection with free products and a competitive 30% discount.

Cons

Least competitive pay rates in the business. Constant payroll cuts mean that on top of minimal pay, even a “full-time” employee shouldn’t expect to work 30 hours a week. Employees are expected to keep fully available schedules to work bizarre hours despite the inconsistency making balancing other work impossible. Strict non-compete agreements also mean you can’t work any other beauty related work if you could juggle it. Company values of Diversity and Inclusion are a front, as the further you go up the corporate chain discrimination becomes obvious, and does bleed down to store level. This is not a company for career driven or income dependent people. Would be a better fit for inexperienced people who can balance it’s schedule as a side hustle or a hobby.

Advice to Management

Management is rarely sourced from within company talent, and is often brought on by competitive retailers with no cosmetic or beauty industry background. Some diversity in background is great, but ultimately most stores seem to suffer from a constant disconnect from management in what is actually needed from both staff and clients in a niche retail industry.

Access to generous gratis program.
