I worked at Sephora part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot of great training from all the brand reps,Gratis, samples, being sent away for training every once in awhile.
Great starter place to work if your not experienced in the retail or the cosmetic industry.

    Cons

Being micromanaged by inexperienced young 20 year olds that really take advantaged of power triping.
Once in awhile you will get a respectable leader that treats you with respect and doesn't treat you like a robot. Not allowed to talk to other co workers or they call it Black clouding in the Ottawa Ontario area. Favouritism is a definite. Bonus doesn't happen very often and isnt much at all. They constantly want you to be tasking and if your assisting a client they are constantly in your ear yelling at you to get to the next client making you feel rushed.
Bag checks are a little much and if you forget to claim your cosmetic items like a lipstick they will throw it in the trash if it wasn't Ingraved before walking through the doors. Discounts arent the best considering you get no commission and they uses favouritism for gratis and if your part time then you won't get much.
Don't expect a raise after working there for awhile they don't want the employees to make any more then $13 an hour as the leaders make $15 not much room to grow.
when they hire new people don't be shocked if they get paid more then you with no experience and you may have been there for years.
Over all good place to learn, great starter job for young girls or guys as their first or 2nd job. Can't make a living working there so don't expect to move out of your parents basement with what they pay you hourly.
Hours can be all over the place during high and low season.
They need really management and less like a playground of toddlers.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating employees like children and pulling power trips. Stop giving inexperienced people leadership positions and actually pay your employees enough to live off of. There should be no reason anyone in that store should be paid less then $15 an hour.

Great training, amazing gratis on top industry products, family style team environment.

    Cons

Favouritism, long hours, lowest pay in the industry, coworkers can be two-faced.

    Advice to Management

For a company that has such a high mark-up on products, try giving your employees on your sales floors a living wage.
