The Washington Post recently released a blog highlighting what several companies are doing to challenge the status quo and reshape their meeting cultures for improved productivity and employee well-being. We’re honored to have taken part in the conversation! As shared in the blog, “Meeting overload continues to be a big problem for many office workers. In general, 68 percent of people say they don’t have enough uninterrupted focus time during the workday, according to a study Microsoft released this year.” Here at Zapier, we’ve introduced a quarterly deep focus week, where we set goals and prioritize our work for an entire week. “It opened time on my calendar to get projects done that I couldn’t get done before,” said Danny Schreiber, senior business operations manager at Zapier, adding that leaders expect us to share what we’ve accomplished during the week. “It feels really good to not only share what you did but to hear what other folks did.” ⚡ Check out the blog to learn more about the effective strategies that are being implemented in support of wellness and productivity in the workplace.

In the latest Future of Work newsletter, the team at Forbes sat down with Wade Foster, CEO at Zapier, to discuss building culture amid remote work. Wade shared that he believes in-office work can be important for some types of businesses, but at Zapier, it’s not really that practical, hence why we’ve been #remote since day one.⚡He shared that it’s important to bring people together regularly, and we do this through annual company retreats (and more!), but remote work doesn’t hinder our creativity or productivity. Wade also highlighted the importance of having a set of principles that clearly articulate how things will get done. Here at Zapier, this shows up in our values and our code of conduct, and we’re in the process of rolling out some new resources to help others learn more about what it’s really like to work here and be fully immersed in a remote environment. As Wade said, it’s important that companies do their best to be clear about who they are so that those considering joining have enough information to make an informed decision. Stay tuned for new updates from Zapier as we head into the new year!

Tracy explained that T-shaped talent is optimal for organizations that require adaptability, collaboration, and innovation. She also shared how Zapier focuses on hiring and developing T-shaped talent, cultivating a mindset of flexibility, and rewarding employees who demonstrate T-shaped skills.
