Last month, members of our team attended an awards ceremony in Dover, DE, where Officers Alexander Schmitt and Donald Dobson were honored for their outstanding actions on-site. Officer Schmitt received a Lifesaving Award for administering CPR to a member of the community, demonstrating a quick response and immense professionalism in a critical situation. Officer Dobson successfully prevented an individual from trespassing on-site, safely deterring them and contacting local law enforcement. Their decisive actions reflect a profound commitment to safety and the high standards upheld across the entire Sunstates team.
Congratulations to Vice President of Regional Operations Kalvin Spells on celebrating 10 years with Sunstates Security! Kalvin joined the team in 2016 as the Houston Regional Manager and quickly became a pillar of our operational leadership. Over the past decade, his career has seen a steady trajectory of growth, progressing through numerous roles before his current title, which he earned in 2022. Today, he provides high-level strategic guidance across a footprint spanning multiple western states.
Congratulations to Travis Miller for being named the Operations & Business Development Manager of the Year! This award recognizes Travis for achieving the highest volume of new business sold by a manager fulfilling a dual role. Over his nine-year tenure with our Orlando regional team, Travis has become an inspiration to his colleagues, leading with a "people-first" approach and serving as an invaluable resource to his clients. It is with great pride that we announce the winners of the 2026 Sunstates Security Officer of the Year Award, presented last week at our Annual Leadership Conference in Raleigh, NC! Each year, regions across the country nominate officers who have demonstrated extraordinary service, and a panel of executive leaders selects the finalists. This year, the stories of heroism and dedication were truly inspiring. Winner: Jeffrey Alonzo Davis, Denver Region. Jeffrey perfectly embodies our "People-First" culture. While serving as a lead officer in Aurora, he responded to a vehicle collision where he found a driver unconscious and in severe medical distress. He immediately began administering CPR, stabilized the driver, and coordinated with emergency services. His swift, decisive actions directly saved the individual’s life. Since this incident, Jeffrey’s leadership has continued to shine, earning him a promotion to Site Supervisor for a major national account! Second Place was awarded to Daniel Shaw of the Cincinnati Region, and Third Place to Geneva Owens of the Savannah Region. Both were selected for their exceptional vigilance and life-saving interventions during medical emergencies. Congratulations to all our nominees and winners!
