March 18th was Global Recycling Day, and we put a spotlight our most successful beneficial reuse project for spent foundry sand last year. ♻️🛣️⌛ Grede Iron Mountain in Michigan achieved an 87% reduction in landfill waste last year by reusing our sand in local roadbeds. Our Iron Mountain foundry collaborates with local construction and municipal authorities, where our used foundry sand becomes underlayment or fill material in road projects. At Grede, we use sand to create cores for our iron castings. While some of our spent sand can be reused internally, a significant portion cannot be reused that way and is sent to other companies for their projects. Grede Iron Mountain has a long history of environmental stewardship and innovation. Their three 3D printers for sand cores have given them a competitive edge in the industry. With 3D core sand reclamation, we're setting new records. This initiative, combined with the increase in roadbed projects, has contributed to a remarkable reduction in landfill waste at Grede Iron Mountain. Together, we're casting a brighter future. 🌻

Winning in safety! 🙌🎉 Grede Browntown was recently featured in the February edition of Modern Casting for winning the American Foundry Society's Safety Innovation & Insight Award last year! Grede Browntown won the award for reducing hand and finger injuries in our blast and grind department by 77%. They achieved this by implementing a new training system to ensure castings were hooked in the same place every time––the safest spot to handle them. Pictured is the blast and grind department with their award. At Grede, safety is the priority. We're always looking for ways to do our jobs safer by eliminating unnecessary safety risks and implementing new fool-proof systems like this one.

We recently donated PPE and other safety supplies to Black Hawk High School in South Wayne, Wisconsin. 👓⛑️🧤 EHS Manager John Paquin and Safety Coordinator Justin Nyman delivered multiple boxes of personal protection equipment for the local high school's auto, welding, and metal fabrication classes. 🚗 When dropping off the donations, they invited us back to speak to the students about safety in the workplace and an introduction to the foundry industry. We love being involved in our local communities and can't wait to return to speak to the high schoolers about the foundry industry and the importance of a solid safety culture.
