Pros

Not only did clovio give me my first true job but also, at the time of writing (2023), is the only place I worked at for more than three years. Founder-CEO Sander Delabie is a great team leader who always has nice words for every employee. Moreover, his leadership style is more reminiscent of a fellow employee rather than a CEO, meaning that you can have honest and not too serious conversations with him without remorse. Given the size of my former team, it felt more like a club rather than a workplace - in the most positive sense of the word. A huge positive, especially in retrospect, is that my job was fully remote, proving once and for all that certain jobs can be performed from anywhere around the world given the right conditions. Despite being fully remote, operations went smoothly and all strictly necessary hardware/software was provided in advance to guarantee you put your absolute best into your work. Still, there were occasional meetups between team members residing in the same country, so social interactions aren't just limited to your screens. As for the knowledge I gained throughout my 3+ years at clovio, it's something I still use today; what you learn at clovio - whether it's skills or the vast subjects covered - will give you the necessary advantage you need in this competitive market. (E.g. WordPress management, basic HTML coding, basic photo editing, research and analysis skills.)

Cons

Since clovio is an ideal place for those who want to kickstart their careers or need a temporary job, my coworkers often changed. As this is a natural process in every company's life, it wasn't a problem per se during my stay at this company; however, leavers were often announced just a few days before their departure - including myself. Also, being a small company, expect salaries that are average at best. (Note: please reach out to "clovions" still working with clovio or having left recently via LinkedIn. As I moved on in 2019, my comments only apply to the pre-2019 state of the company.)

Hello from all of us at clovio, and thank you for taking the time to submit a review! It’s valuable to hear clovions reflect on the start of their career with us after they set out on new professional adventures! While we continue to expand our company of clovions internationally, we do our best to remain united as a team. We’re happy to hear that clovions can still draw on their learnings from working at clovio and benefit from them throughout the rest of their careers. In fact, it makes us proud knowing that former clovions are taking on compelling new challenges at other great organizations. We also highly recommend aspiring clovions to get in touch with current and former clovions to have a chat with them about their experience working at clovio. Things change quickly at a young company like clovio, where we all encourage each other to grow and learn. What certainly hasn’t changed is our appreciation for diversity. We remain a place where each person can be themselves and put a piece of their own personality in our company culture. Thank you for contributing to our culture and helping make clovio become the company that we are today.

Pros

- Flexibility: Although you have to work 40 hours a week, you can create your own schedule. - Culture: I always felt accepted and respected by everyone. Team members really care for you and are always happy to help. - Growth Opportunities: Training programs are being implemented. Management also considers your wants and will try to provide new challenges that go according to that. - Work-life balance: It's very rare to go over the 40 weekly hours. Even if we have deadlines, management will try to rearrange them so that you don't have to overwork. - Creativity: For the most part, you're left on your own devices. There's structure to our content, but the way you write it is up to you, and being creative is something that is encouraged. - Open to feedback: Providing and receiving feedback is something constant at clovio. While there are people in management positions, everyone is treated equally, and no one is above critique. This makes you really feel that you can speak up and tell management when something doesn't need to be improved. And, while not all changes will be made, management hears you and takes your feedback into consideration before saying 'no'. - Benefits: In addition to flexibility and a decent base salary, the company provides other benefits as well, including health insurance, a studio in Lisbon for those who prefer to work in an office, company laptop, among others. - Management: In my experience, I always felt that management had my best interests in mind, both professionally and in my personal life.

Cons

It's a fast-growing small company. Likewise, it suffers from some of the usual growing pains of such businesses. - Processes: Processes still need to be streamlined. While there are a lot of internal guidelines to help everyone to be on the same page, it's still confusing to understand how to proceed sometimes. - Time- and activity-tracking software: While I understand the reason why we need to use time-tracking software, I also understand why it can be anxiety-inducing, especially for newcomers.
