Pros

It was good working environment due to the co-workers and you learn a lot about wine.

Cons

There are no advancement opportunities for women, they prefer to promote men and make them wine consultants. Management does not acknowledge you, and there are a lot rules, with the simplest thing can get you fired.

Very interesting, since I've run the retail operations beginning in 2011, I've hired more women than we have ever had. Many of them have been promoted, some twice since. In all, I've personally promoted seven women myself and only one of which was to fill a vacancy (she is qualified). Whats most interesting is the fact this email was written after I had promoted most. Four of these promotions where jobs created to maintain talent of these exceptional individuals. Another notable statistic, four of these women where cashiers, now they are supervisors and wine consultants.

Pros

Learn about wine. It's a good job to have while in school.

Cons

Management is sub-par at best, no incentives or bonuses for employees, no job security, no paid vacation/sick days/personal days even if you have been working there for a long time. Management makes promises they can't keep. No career opportunities and definitely no growth within.

A family business

Pros

Good salary (for management) Autonomy Work/Life balance okay for retail

Cons

A lot of promises not kept by management. Owner is a hothead who is never wrong, which does more harm to the company than good. Almost everyone in senior management is either related to the owner in some way or has known their family since childhood. I get it, it's a family business and that sounds great on paper, but what is really means is if you're not in the family, you're expendable and held to a different standard. Layoffs in the 2nd half of 2016 caused morale to plunge just as hours were increased for the holidays. Little reward for all those extra hours.
