Purdys Chocolatier – Why Work With Us?

We're a Canadian chocolatier with a rich history. At the turn of the last century, chocolatier Richard Carmon Purdy perfected recipes in his home kitchen and sold fresh chocolates on the street to enthusiastic crowds. Demand for his delicious creations was high, and soon Purdy opened up a shop in downtown Vancouver...and then another.

More than 110 years later, Purdys Chocolatier is Canada's largest family-owned premium-chocolate company. Our tasty treats are enjoyed in shops across British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario—and by people all over the world who are lucky to receive a gift of Purdys' chocolates.

We never compromise on the quality of our products. We source premium-quality ingredients from around the world, and choose local options whenever possible. In fact, our milk, creams and butter are delivered from BC dairy farms, and most of the sugar used in our creations comes from nearby sugar suppliers.

Purdys' creations have a short shelf life—and we like it that way. There's a very good reason why you won't find Purdys' chocolates at your grocery store.

While most wholesale stores keep products on the shelf for a very long time, Purdys' chocolates are made in small batches without added preservatives, so you know you're always getting the freshest product possible.

Award Winning Employer!
We've been honoured to win a Best Employer in Canada award from AON nines, and in 2019 our CEO, Karen Flavelle, was recognized as a Glassdoor Top CEO in Canada.
Did you know?

We still use some of Richard Purdy's fabulous recipes, and we're always inventing more masterpieces. We encourage our Chocolate Kitchen team to constantly experiment with flavours and try new things…but did you know that out of 100+ recipes each year, only less than 10 make it into production?

Truly Canadian and truly delicious, Purdys is a family-owned company that's proudly all about chocolate.

But at Purdys, we don't only invest in sustainable cocoa, community programs and fresh ingredients. We invest in our people too.

It's why Purdys Chocolatier has been awarded an AON Best Employer in Canada award nine times.

We make ourselves better every day at Purdys. It's one of our core values.

Purdys Chocolatier uses only 100% sustainable cocoa. We pay a premium for cocoa to ensure our farmer partners and co-ops are supported by programs that improve their profit and the livelihoods of their families.

It's a choice we've made because it's the right choice to make.

Better farms mean better cocoa beans. Better beans means better profits for our partners. Directly funding community infrastructure projects with local partners means a better future and standard of living for everyone.

Purdys' Sustainable Cocoa Program

Sustainable Farms is one of the two pillars of Purdys' Sustainable Cocoa Program. It means agricultural education and training for farmers so they can get the most out of their cocoa farms while still protecting the environment. Because healthy, productive farms means better beans. Better beans means better profits, and better profits means a better standard of living for our farmer partners around the world.

Healthy, sustainable cocoa farms + a higher yield of better quality beans = better farmer profits.

Sustainable Living is the second pillar of Purdys' Sustainable Cocoa Program. It means supporting the communities where our farmer partners and their families live by funding infrastructure projects, providing medical care in rural areas and making sure children’s education is a community priority. Because community, education and health are just as important as great cocoa.

We don't ask our customers to pay a premium for sustainable cocoa—we just ask them to enjoy.

Proud to be a "Best Employer"

The Purdys difference is that we truly recognize the value of our people. We reward you with competitive compensation, recognition for your achievements, opportunities for ongoing training to grow professionally and personally, delicious perks, and much, much more. We're proud to have been recognized as an AON "Best Employer" for nine years, as a result of feedback from our staff.

Some things haven't changed at Purdys Chocolatier:

We'll always use the freshest ingredients possible.

Always challenge ourselves to create sumptuous chocolate confections.

And Purdys Chocolatier will always be incredibly involved in our communities.

From then-owner Charles Flavelle rolling up his sleeves to help build Choklit Park in 1969 to celebrating the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver to fighting against Ebola together with the World Cocoa Foundation, Purdys has a long history of community spirit.

In fact, Purdys' fundraising, donations and sponsorship initiatives generate more than $3 million for community organizations per year.

Now that's truly sweet.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Purdys Chocolatier (Vancouver, BC) in February 2016.

I was asked about my previous experience but, because it was for a temporary position, the manager just wanted me to work right away. During the interview the manager introduced me to the team and to everyone in the work environment, and the process of how the work would be.
