    I worked at Wickes full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good team to work with, Relatively flexible with hours

    Cons

    Run with dangerously low levels of staff, constant fight with head office to get the required stock, No support from senior management, pay between two people doing the same job can range upto £10k/year difference.

    Advice to Management

    Be realistic with expectations when times are hard

    Pros

    Good quality products
    Be your own boss to an extent

    Cons

    No support once your'e placed in a store
    Managers just pile on the pressure for sales with no support as they can't work CAD and aren't kitchen and bathroom trained
    Rubbish leads as no KBAS's to help qualify leads

    Advice to Management

    MORE SUPPORT FOR NEW DESIGNERS

    Some shopfloor/warehouse operatives were lazy and didn't want to assist CSAs

    Hours not flexible. Management is like a dictatorship.

    Pros

    Good management, for a first Job being at Wickes gets your foot in the door and teaches you good work ethics

    Cons

    If your a push over they will take that to your advantage

    Advice to Management

    My only advise to management would be is to tell you more about the job when you apply.

    Discount
    You can develop a good work ethic
    You can develop bonds with workmates

    Cons

    Patronising\Contradicting managers

    If you are a heavy lifter you will be exploited heavily

    Belittling behaviour by managers and some colleagues

    Injuries are taken lightly and with a lack sympathy

    Managers rarely ever get involved with heavy lifting

    Long "coffee" breaks by managers

    Too much work for too little pay

    Advice to Management

    Get on the shop floor and support your staff members and not just when regionals are in

    Listen and respond to any verbal harassment and address the issue on the spot

    Respect your staff members

    Pros

    - Lots to learn.
    - Good opportunity to develop communication skills.
    - Varied role, I was till trained, trained on the design programmes, knew all the ins and outs of the showroom, performed many admin tasks.
    - Nice strong team environment.

    Cons

    - Not a lot of opportunities for career progression
    - Very relaxed environment that could either work for or against you.
    - Smaller stores are often given unrealistic targets.

    Pros

    -Discount at multiple places all travis Perkins stores associates up and down the country
    -Nice team to work with
    -Understanding managers
    -Great pension
    -uniform provided

    Cons

    -Colleagues bullying you just because your new they think they can boss you around as they have been there longer
    -Old systems
    -The ways of communicating with your colleagues via the headsets not all of them work properly and/or broken or your colleagues don't even wear them
    -Breaks are a joke never on time you only get 15 minutes for your 1st or 2nd break and you only get 30 minutes for your lunch and you don't even get paid for that.
    -Some customers are extremely rude or difficult to serve
    -favouritism of certain staff members and customers
