My Experience with the Bengal's ace Power Utility:The WBPDCL
Pros
As any PSU, it is an organisation that produces its product(here it is electricity) for the masses and hence the pricing is quite fixed and is being mandated by the government agency, State Power Regulatory Commission. We get fixed salaries and incentives and perks, so there is absolutely no envy between the peers. The job timings are fixed as any govt. job apart from emergency situations where one needs to put in extra effort, again for the masses.... Last but not the least is the immense pride taken in doing a public service as u get a lot of respect for it.
Cons
So fixed salaries being delimited by Pay Scales and scheduled pay revisions after decade long wait as per the recommendations made by the Central Pay Commission. Power production, its transmission and distribution are all very emergent jobs, so one needs to work in shifts and have to come to the plant for doing maintenance when it requires.
