Pros

- Free coffee and soft drinks. - There are some good people; there are just too few of them. - The work, alone, is good to have on a CV.

Cons

- Management does not know what is priority. - Management does not trust employees. - You have to fit in. - In meetings, they will dismiss what you've said, or change the subject before you've said everything you wanted to say. - Your integrity is constantly on trial. - People will ask you to do work that doesn't lead anywhere. - Bullying and intimidation are very common. - Some people are treated much differently than others. - Very vague feedback on performance. - Business IQ is generally low. - Very cliquish. - People who have no leadership skills possess a disproportionate amount of power and influence. - It's purely a popularity contest. - You're objectified; not treated like a person.

Gosh, we’re really sorry to hear you had such an awful experience - we have an absolute no tolerance policy to bullying, intimidation and discrimination, so we hope that you flagged this with one of the HR team or through our confidential whistleblowing third-party service? As you may have seen in another of our responses, we’re currently making some significant improvements to our performance management processes, which include clear and measurable ways of working. We believe that these changes will help to set much clearer expectations around behaviour and accountability, particularly for people managers and team leads, so there will be nowhere to hide with behaviour like this!

Pros

- The product itself is genuinely beneficial to the general public. - Free breakfast, gym, coffees, soft drinks, fruit. - They issue modern hardware and grant flexibility in your development environment. - Nice office location.

Cons

- Information about how the company operates is withheld by default. The company has a culture of actively seeking out information but does not have people who are willing to offer it. - Self-professed unicorns in management positions systemically erode confidence and trust in lower level employees. - Pay is nothing special given the cost of working in central London. - Lip service paid to personal development. No one actually cares about you. - The primary programming language used was not the one advertised in the job spec and tested in the interview process. - Implicit expectation that people take their work home with them. The business continuity plan is, conveniently, that employees take their laptops home. - Constant reshuffling of team structure with no announcements leading to confusion about who works where. - Our team lead was consistently absent leaving us without direction. This was spun as us being self-starters, but really it just lead to a random assortment of tasks being tackled at any given time. - Open office environment is incredibly noisy with the aforementioned unicorns happily shouting at each other over the heads of teams between them.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review - it’s good to hear that you’re a fan of the product, our HQ and the amazing in-office perks we offer, but clearly not everything about your experience here was as positive. We know that the open-plan office can be distracting for many - while it encourages more people to talk directly rather than from behind a computer, it can get pretty noisy! Which is why we have plenty of quiet spaces, like the Library, where people can retreat to if they need to. As you may have seen in another of our responses, we’re currently making some significant improvements to our performance management processes, which include clear and measurable ways of working. We believe that these changes will help to set much clearer expectations around behaviour and accountability, as well as improving the way we communicate, share information and support managers with the personal development of their teams.

Pros

Good tech stack Some very good people, sadly shrinking in number Great ambition and potential with the support of the new owners

Cons

Staff do not matter as people they only matter as a unit of output to achieve a goal set by a disconnected self-serving tech leadership as they jostle for position with each other. As a regular member of staff, my priorities change as fast as Amazon can deliver the next hip book about problem solving or management with little regard for my progression, stress level or current workload. It makes me sad to write this review, but I am trying glass door as no one will listen to me internally as only the opinions of three very opinionated people at the head of the technology group matter. Stay away this company will use you and give nothing back.

Hey, thank you for sharing your feedback although we can't pretend it made for an easy read. We’re sorry you feel this way, and especially sorry you didn't feel you could raise this internally. That's really not ok and please be assured we will take your feedback seriously. We've already begun addressing the issues you've mentioned and made some important changes to the business, including reshaping our technical leadership. We hope you'll agree there have already been improvements and that the changes we're implementing are setting much clearer expectations around conduct and accountability for our whole team, especially within senior management. We're not done yet though - we want to make sure everyone feels heard, supported, can see a clear path for their development here and feels their workload is manageable. We’re an agile business so our plans do change, but it’s important you constantly feel connected to this. We do have amazingly talented people working here and we want everyone to genuinely enjoy coming to work everyday. You can speak to our HR team, confidentially at any time. Regarding feedback, we'll be conducting another engagement survey soon, which we’d encourage you to complete, and with mid year reviews coming up, there’s also the opportunity to give and receive feedback more formally. If you’d prefer to give us feedback in some other way please feel free to suggest it to us, or speak with your manager.
