Gave my all to this company

Pros

- CTO is pretty visionary. I learned a lot from him in terms of product thinking/strategy - loved working with some of the engineer ICs - had great design managers

Cons

I gave the company a 1 year heads up that I would like to work full time remote in canada. I had great performance reviews, was promoted within 1 year of joining, and got sign off from my manager and the CTO that they trust me to do this job well. In February, 1 month before I was supposed move back to canada I was let go. It’s crazy because I pulled so many all nighters and gave my all. I was a stellar employee at Facebook for 2.5 years and chose to join because I wanted to give startups a try. My advice to anyone joining startups in general is to do a lot of research because how they treat you is very similar to how they’ve treated past employees. The reviews about employees just disappearing on slack is true.

Pros

I like my current manager.

Cons

Be cautious about the positive reviews on Glassdoor: leadership regularly asks specific people to give positive reviews. Extremely disorganized, with no sense of direction at all. The CEO changes his mind every 2 days about the direction he wants to take the company in, but is frankly too disengaged to do anything more than force everyone to redirect & change strategies before ever having an opportunity to be successful. The CEO has also been clear that he's only in this to become a billionaire. People get fired regularly, without any proper warning and/or opportunities to improve if management feels that they are underperforming. Loads of micromanagement. You will be successful if you are a straight, white man. Leadership loves to talk about their Ivy League Education, and they love nepotism. The company has shown little to no support for diversifying the employee-base. If they do, it's just lip service. They have no EQ either.
