I have been working at Toolstation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great team, varied work day, staff discount, progression

    Cons

As like all retail Weekends and evenings can be a pain.

    Advice to Management

Having been with Toolstation for 5 months now I am so impressed in the vision and drive the company has, they are really working hard on listening to what the staff have to say, the development programs for sales assistant up are fantastic and the opportunity to progress in the company is limitless. I left Screwfix to come to Toolstation and so far It has been the best decision I made.

I worked at Toolstation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A good balance between an easy job and fast paced work. Worked in two locations and both had a good work force and could have a laugh while also being somewhat professional.

    Cons

Serving tradesmen who want everything yesterday and moan to the high heaven when something is not in.

    Advice to Management

Train staff 102% before giving them free reign on refunds and cash transactions.

I have been working at Toolstation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Monthly pay structure.
    4 weeks notice on rotas.
Business starting to invest invest in its people.
Get the right results, keep your toes in line and there are further career opportunities ahead.
Opening times ok for a retail business.
True spirit of teamwork and work ethic within stores.
Regional Managers do not visit very often and most of the time will inform you prior.
The job itself is basic. Stock, Pick, Sell. Tasks are black and white, compliant or non compliant. A guide to teach you.

    Cons

Challenging head count to hours ratio.
Consistently asking 20 hour sales assistants to work 40 hour weeks is not right in 2019.
Managers suggestions / decisions on their own stores have to go through hoops to become authorised.
Technology in store is a decade behind rivals.
Heavily procedure driven with little room for store teams to place thier own stamp on a store.

    Advice to Management

Great steps have been made in order to listen to the people at the forefront of your business. The people driving your sales and ensuring your branches are trading and delivering the service that is expected.

Steps in rewarding people more fairly for the work they put in have started to come into effect, however there is a lot more work to do. No longer being a minimum wage employer is steps in the right direction but still falls behind rivals. Managers pay rise after tax equates to an extra 2.50 a shift.

There are more rewarding positions within retail across rival businesses and retail as a whole. If Toolstation really want to the front runner then they need to ramp this up even further. Toolstation need to be looking at hitting the 'best places to work' leaderboard.

Recruiting the best people for the job is getting harder as the best people are going elsewhere to more enticing job offers.

Keep going. With more people focus we can become a good place to work.

I have been working at Toolstation full-time

    Pros

I have worked for toolstation for three years and the last year and a half I have seen some of the most drastic changes in terms of the focus purely being about our people and being a good place to work. Really is a company where everyone is closely working together.

    Cons

All cons have easily been addressed and with the investments ongoing cons will just be less and less with no faults with a fast growing business like this.

    Advice to Management

Work hard get involved and be positive while having fun at the same time

    Good working environment
    Relaxed and friendly
    Discount for TP group

    Cons

Increase head count and hours budget

    Advice to Management

Refit older stores and less emphasis on new stores having all the best stuff as this detracts from the older branches which are making the money to pay for the rapid expansion
