I have been working at Toolstation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The internal development of current employees is outstanding! You really will have a career here at Toolstation. I have experienced this first hand being promoted to manager as the company recognises talent and rewards them. I was also inducted onto the the Toolstation Retail Development Programme which I cannot shout about enough it is an excellent programme to set an individual up to running their own store, providing them with all the tools required to become successful.

    Cons

None it is a great place to work

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you're doing making Toolstation a great place to work

    I worked at Toolstation part-time

    Pros

An extremely easy job with almost no pressure. All you had to do was collect item for customers.

Plus, sort out deliveries twice a week.

    Cons

Their checkout system is not a barcode-scanning sytem. You have to manually put in the item code and quantities which can get annoying.

Can get really boring especially in stores which aren't busy.

    Advice to Management

Improve checkout by introducing scanning sytem and provide Wifi to employees! Also, give more to employees to do when store is quiet.
Plus, let employees enjoy the free drink service too!

I have been working at Toolstation full-time

    Pros

Really enjoying my time at This company. I’ve got myself on RDP which hopefully leads me to being a manager.

    Cons

Need more hours in stores when there’s holiday as it’s tough especially if some one pulls a sickie. Pay could be better but it’s alright for the work.

    Advice to Management

Love the changes, keep the improvements coming! We all appreciate them.

I have been working at Toolstation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lovely team. As stores have small teams we become friends. Lovely atmosphere and great incentives for the teams from higher management

    Cons

Difficult hours for those with children. Smaller teams make it difficult when people are off on holiday or Ill

I have been working at Toolstation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

My team are amazing. Fun to work with and a pleasure to manage. Everyone looks after each other and are really extended family. The whole team just wants to see a job well done.
Progression is there if you want it, no matter your background. If you are willing to commit to the opportunities you can go as far as you dare in this company.

    Cons

As teams are small, when sickness hits at the same time as holiday, balancing hours can become challenging and hard on the team.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you’re doing. The company is going in the correct direction. It’ll be interesting to be a part of in the coming few years.

    Cons

There is no real con to my job at Toolstation, i have had nothing but great experiences whilst i have been with toolstation.

I have been working at Toolstation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It’s clear that most colleagues I’ve encountered in the organisation are keen on the idea that it is a fast growing company and there seems to be opportunity to progress. There is a great deal of good hard working people in this company that want to succeed.. The service levels from some of the stores, warehouse and head office are outstanding. There are opportunities for individuals to JOIN a new growing company.

    Cons

The colleague turnover rate is astounding even though this has drastically improved over the last 3 years. However there is no continuity in management due to the expansion or follow through in their decisions. Sudden changes during the year in terms sales or contracted hours leaves much to be desired.
It’s sends a mixed message to all that decisions we’re not thought through clearly.
The rapid growth leads to a few inevitable negative consequences.
    - Undeliverable targets for stores nearby newly opened stores,
    - continuous travelling of colleagues to cover new store which disrupts the settled stores.
    - Colleagues being overlooked by an ever changing store supervisors, managers or Regionsl managers .

    Advice to Management

Recruiting for toolstation is a difficult undertaking for good long term prospects.
Filling short term gaps or panic recruitment is easy enough. Most don’t mind a foot in the door.
But with the current rates on offer by Toolstation some quality colleagues are not considering the company as a long term employer.
It is clear that other companies in this retail segment offer much better perks and job stability.
Surely better hourly rates and benefits for colleagues and management would keep attracting better colleagues but also retain them as well.
