Pros

Working at Style Encore gave me good exposure to resale retail and helped me understand customer buying and selling behavior. It was interesting to see the types of items people bring in and learn how pricing and selection decisions are made. The job also helps build multitasking skills, especially when handling customers, organizing inventory, and managing store tasks simultaneously.

Cons

The job gives you a good look into the resale retail industry and how buying/selling decisions are made. You learn how to evaluate items, price inventory, and manage multiple tasks at once. There is also some exposure to social media content creation. The management is the biggest issue. The work environment felt toxic, with extremely rude and disrespectful behavior toward both employees and customers. There was constant micromanagement..staff were monitored through CCTV and even small things like talking during slow periods would result in the store being called and told to stop, even when all work was being completed. Expectations were completely unrealistic. Employees were expected to create an extremely high number of social media posts and reels daily while also running the store, helping customers, organizing inventory, and watching fitting rooms to prevent theft. It was not manageable and created constant pressure. There was also a mindset pushed by management that “everyone is a thief,” which made the environment tense and uncomfortable for both staff and customers. Instead of focusing on customer experience, the focus was heavily on suspicion and control. Additionally, there were serious concerns about inappropriate and discriminatory attitudes in the workplace. At one point, a colleague felt the need to take me aside and share concerns about racist views toward Indian customers. While I personally did not experience this directly, hearing this from another employee was concerning and contributed to an uncomfortable and unprofessional work environment. Overall, the lack of respect, unrealistic workload, and negative management style made this a very difficult place to work.
