The Real Deal

Pros

This is the best job I've had in years. I'm actually challenged and inspired to keep getting better at what I do. This isn't your typical startup. We're building a database and cloud service which is cool but tough stuff to build and doesn't happen over night. Our team is hard-core and experienced. I've spent my career in enterprise and big data working with some of the best. I picked Splice Machine because their product is one of a kind and built for the future, predictive technology. Even though a lot of companies are using open source tools in their stack, Splice Machine is actually building with software like Spark, HBase, Mesos and Docker. We've embraced using Agile Scrum recently which has really helped manage all the moving pieces, giving everyone product ownership. Several on the exec team have worked together in the past. Ask anyone who worked at Blue Martini about them. They are good people. And they've made it a point to hire good people. PhDs and autodidacts work together alike, learning new technologies as we build. Everyone is the real deal. You will never be short on new things to learn.

Cons

No biggies- no shower in office but there's a gym around the corner. CEO is allergic to dogs, so no dogs in office. We could use a couple more developers but that's always the case.

Pros

The potential to be something great

Cons

While I was being interviewed, I was "sold" on Unlimited PTO. It isn't the case. When you join, all of a sudden it's a bait and switch and you are monitored to three weeks. That was not disclosed. Also - no communication or team meetings from the leaders. When someone leaves the very small organization, no one knows about it. How is that for morale? Another item: Employees are forced to leave a 5* review on here. Should you not, HR will reach out and make you edit your review so they can always be on top. There is NO work life balance. The norm is 65 hour work weeks, weekend work and holidays aren't necessarily off.

Pros

A unique fit to a real problem since the emerging of Data Warehouse. By providing a database that can be transactional and analytic without compromising performance and scalability. Wait, the cherry on top is the Machine Learning platform that enables customers to get the utmost value of their data. I work with the smart, friendly, and humble (rare combination) of the best teammates I could find.

Cons

Not really a con, but something to note, but still in a "startup" mode that has lots of moving parts, and not fitting "corporate" style's people.
