Pros

Once upon a time it was was a good place to work. Good employees, friendly environment, good salaries, perks. yet, Southwire has a good reputation and skills that you can learn here are great. But learn them and take them to another company who treats you with respect.

Cons

Each regime started with the same “change is good” tediuos slogan to screw things up more. The only thing matters, is the numbers not people. Employees are forced to resign or fired every day and once the company has made the decision that you need to go, there is nothing you can do to change their mind. Remaining just waiting for an opportunity to quit for a better life. For the past few years, just a toxic workplace with total lack of leadership. Biased HR, untalented management, too many office politics, favoritism, nepotism, undeserved promotions,....... Morale at its lowest but lies, gossiping, back stabbing and ugly competition at its highest level. People are more likely to blame others instead of assisting them. It is a common practice, whenever someone makes a mistake it is being spread to the entire company as a lesson. Some cheat to damage other’s reputation, lie of omission to withhold relevant information, misrepresent on accomplishments to make themselves look better at expense of others.

Pros

None. Zip . Zilch. Nada.

Cons

Constant turnover and only the horrible ones stay - the EA is absolutely nuts and needs help. Completely bonkers. HR is biased and only does what their favourite upper managers want. If you are desperate and accept a job here - suck up to HR in any way you can and you will be fine. Thats the only way to not be miserable and climb the ladder. Totally biased and unfair. We need professional people... but do yourself a real favour and don't get stuck here like the rest of us...

Pros

This review is specific to the Canadian division. Depending on where you are in your job search, Southwire Canada is a company that may be a fit for what you are looking for. Some of the good things about Southwire Canada are: - Innovative and competitive product offerings/solutions - Capable sales team across Canada, including those in the pricing and inside sales teams - Many Southwire US initiatives that are unique and tie into supporting the community and employees (ie: 12 for life, Project GIFT, The Power Fund, College Funding to manufacturing staff ) - Many giving back initiatives to get involved in and have an opportunity for paid volunteering - Flexibility and ability to integrate your work and life commitments - Some managers are true leaders and are both extremely knowledgeable and team champions - Office is in a prime location within Mississauga (close to highways and malls)

Cons

There have been a lot of changes over the past 3 years within Canada that have resulted in many cons and a shift in how the business treats its employees and operates. - Constant revamping and clean up of teams and leaders - Canada claims to be growing, but the size of the team has decreased at an eery rate (the turnover is atrocious; you will not find many folks that have been with the company over 5 years) - Culture of panic and finger pointing each month; the state of your performance can be effected if you do or say the wrong thing, or if you seem to not be “cutting it” - Myopic President - No Canadian manufacturing and consistent US delays is disengaging to deal with Overall, depending on what’s important to you, Southwire May or may not be the fit for you. The constant unsteadiness and lack of security is a definite concern felt through all employees. It’s not the worst place in the world, but there is a lot of improvement and work to be done in some key areas.
